Bali Already Chose and Still Waiting for The Chosen President

The day we’ve all been waiting for is here. The 2019 Indonesian General Election held on April 17, for 193 million Indonesians to head to more than 800,000 voting stations to elect their leaders for the next five years. But unlike previous elections, not only a Presidential election to choose between the incumbent President Joko Widodo or former general Prabowo Subianto, this year’s election is going to be an even bigger “Pesta Demokrasi” as for the first time, the parliamentary elections also take place on the same day. Indonesian voters will be choosing from more than 250,000 candidates for 20,538 legislative seats at five levels of government over a period of just six hours. We trust the Indonesian people voted well, and whoever comes out ahead at the ballot, we are glad to be part of such a massive democratic event.

However, unlike many others province in Indonesia, Bali  has several spotlight on general election that became a distinctive or give an uniqueness than another. In Bali, From April 17 till today (4/20), recent quick count shows that the incumbent President of Joko Widodo has been obtaining 91,36 % vote against former General Prabowo Subianto that just receiving 8,64% based on recent General Elections Commission of (KPU) Republic Indonesia. Similar to previous president election in 2014, Bali is dominated by Joko Widodo sympathizer.

Another uniqueles of general election in Bali are happened in polling stations or known as TPS. In TPS 10 Banjar Ubung, Sempidi, Badung Regency, several people possess as a marvel superheroes such as Spiderman and Thor to obtain the civil participation on general election. This as a responses  of a huge number of people who are considered to not involved in general election.

At the same time, in TPS 8 Pedawa, Banjar, Buleleng Regency, the committee put deliberately the polling stations as similar as wedding venue to gain attention for millennials. The committee had been used about IDR 500 thousands to build the venue. Since previous election, this polling station always getting so much attention as it always decorate the venue and as a result a wonderful change has taken place over. Many people come to votes. And they decide who will lead the country for the next five years.

Today, the General Election Commission still counting and processing the election before announcing the chosen president on May. After all, Joko Widodo lead the poll by gaining 55,14% of total voters, followed by former General Prabowo Subianto by 44,86 %. Since the election started, several  clubs, restaurateurs, tourism center all around Bali are offered plenty of discount for voters who celebrate this democracy who showing his/her blue tint on fingers.
